लॉकर में रखे गहनों में से फुली को देखकर दिल चीर सा जाता है।
फुली मेरी पत्नी की नाक में जीवनभर रही थी। शादी से पहले, शादी के बाद, और जीवन के अंतिम समय तक भी।
दूसरे गहने कभी गिरवी रखे गए। मुश्किलें टाली गईं। कई गहने तो ब्याज नहीं चुका पाने के कारण हाथ से चले भी गए। लेकिन फुली हमेशा उनकी नाक में रही।

अन्य गहने कभी गिरवी रखे गए, कभी मुश्किलें टाली गईं। कुछ गहने ब्याज न चुका पाने के कारण बिक भी गए। लेकिन फुली हमेशा उनकी नाक में ही रही।

जब वह गंभीर रूप से बीमार हुईं, आई.सी.यू. में फुली के बिना नाक के छिद्र में इरिगेशन पाइप डालकर उन्हें खाना खिलाया गया। बेहोशी की हालत में भी उन्होंने उस पाइप को खींचकर फेंक दिया। उस समय फुली हटाकर पाइप डालने की कोशिश की गई, लेकिन फुली हटाई नहीं जा सकी। और उनकी मृत्यु तक वह फुली उनकी नाक में ही रही।

मैंने उनसे वादा किया था कि उस फुली की जगह हीरे की फुली बनवाकर दूंगा। लेकिन वह वादा पूरा नहीं कर सका। उन्होंने भी कभी इसकी मांग नहीं की। और वह फुली हमेशा उनकी नाक में ही रही।

फुली! जैसे उनकी नाक में वह फुली, वैसे ही मैं और वह एक-दूसरे से जुड़े हुए थे। वह मुझे छोड़ना नहीं चाहती थीं। मैं भी उन्हें छोड़ना नहीं चाहता था। लेकिन हमें अलग होना पड़ा...

उनकी मृत्यु के बाद, वह फुली उनकी नाक से आसानी से निकाल ली गई। आज भी जब उस फुली को देखता हूं, वह उनकी यादों का प्रतीक बनकर सामने खड़ी हो जाती है। आंखें नम हो जाती हैं। दिल चीर सा जाता है।
लेकिन... फुली की तरह ही, अंत में सब कुछ छोड़कर जाना होता है। वह सब कुछ छोड़कर चली गईं, केवल यादें छोड़कर...। वह यादें, जिन्हें ताजा करती रहती है एक छोटी सी फुली...!

English Translation

The Nose Stud

Among the jewelry stored in the locker, seeing the nose stud pierces my heart.
The nose stud had adorned my wife’s nose throughout her life—before our marriage, after it, and even until her final moments.

Other pieces of jewelry were pawned when times were hard. Some were even lost because we couldn’t repay the loans. But the nose stud always stayed on her nose.

When she was critically ill and admitted to the ICU, a feeding tube was inserted through the hole beneath the nose ring. Even in her unconscious state, she tugged at the tube and pulled it out. At that time, an attempt was made to remove the nose stud to place the tube properly, but it couldn’t be taken off. And until her death, the nose stud  stayed on her nose.

I had promised her that I would replace that nose stud with a diamond one. But I couldn’t fulfill that promise. She never asked for it either. And that nose stud always stayed on her nose.

The nose stud! Just as it was inseparable from her nose, she and I were inseparable. She never wanted to leave me, nor did I want to leave her. But we had to part ways...

After her death, the nose stud was easily removed from her nose. Even now, when I see that nose stud it stands before me as a reflection of her. Tears well up in my eyes, and my heart aches.
But... just like the nose stud, in the end, everything must be left behind. She left everything and went away, leaving behind only memories... Memories that remain fresh through a small nose stud.!
